155.01  International Building Code Adopted

155.02  Amendments and Modifications

 

155.01    INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE ADOPTED.  The International Building Code, adopted by Johnson County, Iowa, on October 10, 2005, and as amended by Johnson County, is hereby adopted as the building code for the City.  Pursuant to an existing agreement by and between the City and the County, the provisions of the building code shall be administered by the Johnson County Building Department.

155.02    AMENDMENTS AND MODIFICATIONS.  The following additional amendments, modifications, additions and deletions are hereby made to the International Building Code adopted by this chapter.

105.2/R105.2  Work Permits for Certain Accessory Buildings.

1.         For one-story detached accessory buildings used as tool or storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, decks, additions or garages, when the floor area does not exceed two hundred (200) square feet and the lot has placed thereon a two-family or less dwelling unit, a permit shall be required from the City of Swisher, only.  When the floor area is two hundred (200) square feet or more the same permit shall be required from Johnson County and the City of Swisher.

155.03    PERMIT REQUIRED.  No person shall erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building or structure in the City or cause the same to be done without first obtaining a separate building permit for each such building or structure from the County and unless such work is completed in accordance with the Building Code.
