The City of Swisher has formed a Water Committee to investigate the feasibility of a Municipal Water System. The Committee worked with HR Green to develop a Preliminary Engineering Report to determine a preliminary plan for a Municipal Water System, recommend infrastructure needs, identify planning-level costs. In addition, the City Council has taken steps to implement design and construction standards for installing water main as part of recent developments that could ultimately be used for a community PWS. Treatment is not required for the target source but could be implemented in the future, if desired.

A citywide vote will take place on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Additional information about the vote has been posted on the Johnson County Auditor's website.  The Johnson County Auditor's website does have a sample ballot available on their website.

NOTE:  If you do not live within the City of Swisher limits, even if you have a Swisher address, you are not part of the vote.  You can check your address to see your specific ballot here:  https://www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/auditor/elections

As part of the planning stages for the City of Swisher’s municipal water system, HR Green has completed several iterations on cost evaluations and sequencing to identify a potential path forward for the community.  On Friday, February 17, 2023, the following flier was mailed to the residents of Swisher.  This flier is an estimate of what a timeframe and cost break down could look like.

Please click on the picture to open a PDF version of the flier.

Please note:  These rates do not assume any grants, forgivable SRF loans, or other means separate funding. If separate funding is obtained, the user rates could be reduced, the implementation period could be accelerated, or a combination of the two. As stated in meetings, grants and SRF loans cannot be obtained until there is a municipal water system established for the City.

Any questions about this new information can be submitted to swisher-comm@southslope.net.  The questions will be gathered and presented in the next two meetings.
